Joe completed his doctorate in clinical psychology at Kent State University in Ohio. His dissertation research concerned sense of self in chronic mental illness. He focused on evidence-based, mindfulness-oriented therapies in his clinical work since the start of his training in 1997. He provided therapy to a broad range of clients in his private practice for 16 years. His continuing education has focused on mindfulness-oriented behavioral approached including DBT and related therapies.

As a therapist, Joe has been described by his clients as warm, present, supportive and practical. He believes in the capacity of every individual to grow and has had the privilege of helping hundreds of people heal, develop, become skillful, and progress in their life goals.

Joe practices Zen meditation and has been an active member of the Zen Community of Oregon for nearly 20 years. When not at work or meditating, he enjoys playing guitar, getting out into nature, and spending time with family.
